Learning Picture Name = Uphill.

Frequency of Correct Responses = Accelerating toward correct frequency aim.

Frequency of Error Responses = Accelerating away from error frequency aim.

Accuracy Ratio = Maintaining.

Change to Make = Teach to Errors.

Situation Report

Metaphor: Children back in the 1970s named this learning picture "Uphill" because both the correct and the error frequencies are heading upwards. The corrects accelerate, as do the errors. They are both heading up the hill. Pat All reported on the learning pictures and their names (All, 1977). Likewise, that same year Dr. Ogden R. Lindsley (1977) presented learning pictures to the MABA convention.

Description: "Uphill" represents an undesired learning picture, generally speaking. True, the rate of correct responses increases. However, so does the rate of error responses. Both co-accelerate. While the corrects may be headed toward an aim star goal, the errors are heading away from the error aim star goal.

An "Uphill" picture illustrates the independence of frequency and accuracy. Frequency increases, but accuracy stays the same. There is no appreciable change to the Accuracy Ratio with Uphill learning pictures.

Decision: If an "Uphill" learning picture emerges, then the typical decision to make is to teach to errors. The corrects are fine.

Notes: The Record Floor represents the amount of time spent recording the behavior of interest. We define it as 1/number of minutes spent recording. On the chart we use a dashes to show it. If the Record Floor stays the same every day, then a dashed line (as shown above) can be used. "Zero" per minute is shown by frequencies plotted just below the Record Floor. All standard celeration charts should have a Record Floor.
